80% of digital information is... you guessed it, English!
There are currently 2,000 million people on Earth who can comprehend and get by with English.
However, ever tried to talk to someone speaking Nigerian Pidgin English? Basically mutually unintelligible. Liverpool English? Indian English? Many different dialects are forming... so though it may appear to be approaching "World Language" status. I do not think this can ever quite be the case for any language. Most of us know English is becoming such a powerhouse, but the statistics like above are endless.
